Muffet is a pilot for the flight Mercy, an organization administered by Orcas Aviation Association in which nine pilots are about 60 flights each year to transport patients to Orcas Island hospitals and medical facilities in Washington.
The short flight rather than a long ferry is an attraction for people looking for weekly or monthly treatments. The flight from Bellingham to Orcas Island can be done in 10 minutes. The drivers are volunteers, but are reimbursed for fuel.
Muffet, who moved to Orcas 12 years ago from the mainland, received his pilot's license at 17.He was a pilot for Mercy Flight Program for five years.
