New machzor delves into heart of Rosh Hashanah
Rabbi Jonathan Sacks Lord Chief Rabbi of the United Kingdom, has published books enough to win his many titles - about 20 volumes, ranging from scholarly reviews of the analysis of contemporary culture. Widely considered one of the main Jewish leaders in the world, Sacks published the "Sacks Koren Siddur" in 2009, named for the famous author and his publisher authority. This prayer book offered a new translation and commentary and was making its way into widespread use in the modern Orthodox synagogues.
Last month, Koren has published the highly anticipated "Koren Sacks Mahzor Rosh Hashanah" ($ 34.95), incorporating sleek Koren and linear translation with an overview of academic Sacks on major holidays. In Volume 1120 pages, Sacks offers a translation available, precise and poetic and extensive comments to explain and complete the prayer and the importance of the day. Sacks spoke to The Journal from his office in London.
Julie Gruenbaum Fax: You acknowledge in your introduction that the High Holy Days are long prayers and sometimes obscure, with difficulty understanding and acrostic poetry. How does your machzor make the service more accessible?

So how did it evolve?I wanted to do in some sense interesting and moving in a certain sense, to stop and you say, "Wow, I have not thought of that before." Rosh Hashanah is one of those moments where you think really, "Who am I? What do I do with my time? What I added to the history of our people? What will I remember to?
