The City of Mountain View, in an effort to lower its energy bills, has replaced fluorescent lamps at their Community Center with energy-efficient DirectLED from Bay Area LED light bulb company, GreenVantage Solution. After testing several brands of energy-efficient lighting solutions, Dale Adams, Facilities Supervisor for the city of Mountain View, decided on EarthLED's DirectLED 4-foot T8 replacements and installed them in classrooms and office areas at the Community Center. The T8 replacements are rated at 15 watts as compared to the 34 watts of the regular 4-foot fluorescent bulbs.
The DirectLED FL series is a replacement for traditional T8, T10 and T12 fluorescent tubes, bringing LED technology to environments never before possible. DirectLED is the most comprehensive family of LED Linear lighting available, from 12-in to 8-ft to U-Bent.
Among the many benefits of DirectLED 4-foot lamps are long-life, extreme efficiency and flexible voltage. DirectLED has a 50,000+ hour lifespan and are more than 80% more efficient than traditional fluorescent tubes. There is no ballast required thus allowing even more energy to be saved. It can also be used in AC 110 - 277V or DC 12V input environments. It also features a shatter-free design and has no mercury. The DirectLED is one of the first and only LED fluorescent retrofit solutions to be both UL classified for safety at 100-277VAC and to have undergone stringent, independent LM79 testing to ensure both safety and verified performance.
"Kudos to Dale Adams and City of Mountain View for being one of the first cities in the Bay Area for going green and installing LED fluorescent tube replacements in their public spaces. The city is progressive in being environmentally friendly and active in reducing their carbon footprint. I'm happy to say that the City of Mountain View continues to use our DirectLED 4 foot tube replacements and also have installed them in various water pump stations throughout the city," says Christine Capulong of GreenVantage Solution.

If a facility has electronic ballast for powering fluorescent tubes, it doesn't need to be upgraded or retrofitted to supply power to new lamps. If, on the other hand, there's magnetic ballast strung up along the ceiling, it's time to make some
The lamp and ballast replacement is something done on a yearly basis. "They're electronic ballasts that get dimmer as they get older," Aden said. "We had 12 or 13 totally out, and several were pinkish because they were dying." Work will continue on the

These features of the ballast circuit often require more than one attempt for the gaseous excitation. This leads to slower start and start-up flickering of the tube lights. Because this arrangement has the above problems and also consumes more power,
Members of the city's Building Maintenance Department and staff at the Convention Center replaced over 4200 T12 fluorescent tubes and 1652 ballasts with T8 fluorescent tubes and ballasts which use 40 percent less electricity throughout the city.
